Roskilde Festival attracts Aussies
Each year, numerous Australians take the long journey from the land down under way up north to Roskilde Festival. We have asked one of our Aussie fans why the festival is worth the trip. Although Australia could not possibly be any further away, Roskilde always attracts a delegation of festival-happy Aussies who travel across the world for eight days of the special Roskilde experience. One of them is Chris Woods who first came to Roskilde in 2006:
“Roskilde Festival had been on my radar for a long time as it always popped up on the majority of my favourite bands' tours. Then I investigated further and found out the full line-ups of previous years and was blown away,” he says.
Dedicated Roskilde guest
What eventually induced him to go was a combination of the facts that he had a friend working in Norway at the time and that his favourite band Tool was announced.
“We tossed up the crazy idea that I should come over to do the festival – a special two-week trip just for the festival. To fly half way around the world just for a festival was out there. But I did it!”
Since then, the Aussie has come back to the field outside of Roskilde each year in the first weekend of July. He survived the mud flood in 2007 and came back in 2008, which he describes as “absolutely phenomenal.”
This year, however, will to his great regret not see Chris Woods at Roskilde Festival, as he is to have an operation.
“I have discussed the option to delay the operation with my wife, but finally she has put up the red card. No doubt that I'll be there next year,” says the dedicated Aussie.
Roskilde on Australian TV channel
However, other young Australians will find their way up north this summer for the special Roskilde experience, as Australian TV channel Channel [V] places Roskilde Festival on their list of things to do before turning 30. The channel visited the festival in 2008 and they were so excited about Roskilde Festival that they encourage all young Australians to go for the great music and, not least, the great atmosphere. As they state on their website:
“Denmark might not be the first place Aussies think about going before they're 30. But when it's so close to London, full of friendly Danish who love getting their kit off and home to one of Europe's top three music festivals, a visit is definitely recommended.”
